LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines – “Viva Señora Birhen sa Regla!” This was the resounding acclamation of the tens of thousands of devotees and pilgrims who attended the novena (Nov 12-20) and fiesta Masses (Nov 21) in honor of Lapu-lapu City’s beloved patroness Nuestra Señora de Regla (Our Lady of the Rule).
“Pagpamalandong sa Kasingkasing ni Jesus Diha sa Bibliya Dinasig ni Maria, ang Nuestra Señora de Regla” (Contemplating the Heart of Jesus in the Bible, Inspired by Mary, Our Lady of the Rule) was the theme chosen for the 273rd patronal fiesta celebration.
His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal presided over the 9:30 AM Mass on November 21. Forty-five religious and diocesan priests concelebrated with the Cebu Archbishop. In his homily, Cardinal Vidal said that he laments the fact that there are many dishonest and pretentious people in leadership positions. He added that many so-called “investigations” end prematurely or do not ever reach completion at all because those responsible do not tell the truth or are told to lie. And thus he urged the faithful:
…nga isip mga ‘debotos’ sa Nuestra Señora Virgen de Regla magpadayon kita sa pagkamatinud-anon sa hunahuna, sa pulong ug sa buhat kay dili ikalimod, mao kini ang dakong panginahanglan sa atong panahon. (As devotees of Our Lady of the Rule, we must remain truthful in thought, word and action. It cannot be denied that this is what is needed today.)
Aside from the 9:30 AM mass with the Cardinal, nine other Masses (5:00AM, 6:30AM, 8:00AM, 11:00AM, 1:30PM, 3:00PM, 4:30PM, 6:00PM, and 7:30PM) were celebrated by resident and guest priests on that day.
