Filipino MSCs in Brazil Join Lay Congress, Retreat
31 October 2008
CUIABA, Brazil – Frs Reynante Ga and Gabriel Galido are the two Filipino MSCs who are presently doing mission in the Pro-province of Curitiba in Brazil. They are assigned in separate parishes – Fr Galido in Juina and Fr Ga in Cuiaba. One has to travel around thirteen hours by bus to get to the other parish.
Being relatively new in Brazil, Frs Ga and Galido said that learning to speak Portuguese continues to be their main concern. Yet they are happily adapting, inculturating and fullfiling their pastoral responsibilities according to their individual capacities.
Frs Ga and Galido participated in the MSC Lay Congress held on 17-19 October 2008 at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Curitiba, Brazil. The two were impressed by the collaboration and participation of the MSC lay associates and partners in that country.
Fr Ga observed that the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (DOLSH Sisters) did a good job in the preparation and organization of the congress. One of the speakers during the congress was Sr. Zuele, a DOLSH sister of the São Paolo Province. Her topic was “Justiça e Paz e Integridade da Creação” (Justice and Peace and Integrity of Creation).
The International Congress of the MSC Lay Associates will be held in 2009 in the Dominican Republic. It was announced that Sr. Merly Salazar, a Filipina DOLSH sister, will be one of the main speakers.
On 21 October 2008, Frs Ga and Galido joined a retreat facilitated by Fr Humberto Capobianco, MSC, the current Superior of the São Paulo Province in Brazil. Fr Capobianco focused on the Spirituality of the Sacred Heart in the context of the modern times
Frs Ga and Galido attended a short MSC assembly to discuss important concerns like formation, mission, health, community life and transfer of personnel. Fr Galido will soon transfer from the Diocese of Juina (Parish of Sto.Agostinho) to the Diocese of Francisco Beltrão/Palmas (St.Joseph Parish), while Fr Ga will continue to work in Cuiaba, Mato Grosso.

Thank God for giving us such generous and happy Surigaonon confreres. Thank you for our 100 years in this beautiful land of Surigao with its beautiful people. Thank you Surigao for having such a special place in the history of the MSC Philippine Province. We owe so much to you. You will always have a special place in our hearts. Thank you.

Hello! I am new here in Lagoa Santa, Brazil (about 4 days). I would like to know if there are any Filipinos residing or living here.
I am not good at speaking portuguese but understand some. I do understand Spanish and can speak a little. Accent here is a big deal so I am still adapting to their lifestyle.
